In collaboration with contemporary artist Pietro Terzini and the Vista hotel group, Visivalab participated in the first edition of the Ostuni Design Weekend (June 6 to 9, 2024). Under the motto “Singularity of Space”, Roberto Murgia’s RMA Architecture Studio –which is in charge of the architectural transformation of the city’s iconic Tobacco Factory into a luxury hotel– opted for an artistic project that highlights the historical memory of the building and its connection with the territory through its former role.
For the project, we were in charge of the site-specific macro-projection of Pietro Terzini’s artwork “No change, no butterflies” on the façade of the building, as well as the technical installation, animation and post-production of the work. In addition, we were in charge of the installation and adaptation of the supports of two other audiovisual works included in the exhibition.

Project
The architectural firm RMA is familiar with this type of artistic interventions in their long-term projects, seeking to honor the relationship of the buildings where they work with their surroundings and history. The proposal for Ostuni Design Weekend was an exhibition of works by contemporary artists inside the under construction building.
As Visivalab, we were in charge of the realization of the artistic project presented by Terzini, invited by the organization as an international artist. Starting from the creative idea and the words drawn by the artist, we created the text animation he imagined.. We then took care of the structure construction with the necessary hardware, as well as the programming and supervision of the projection.
The result is an ephemeral installation of 10 x 18 m that embraces change as an engine for emotion and happiness, to make things happen, by connecting the past of the building and the changes it has undergone with the future place it will become, and its contributions in shaping the territory.

We were also in charge of the technical installation and audiovisual adaptation of the supports of two other works exhibited during the design weekend. In the first one, a former worker of the tobacco factory explains her personal account, with which the organization of the exhibition honors the former function of the building and the local workers. In the second, a promotional video about the values of the Vista hotel chain and philosophy that guides their vision and choice of locations.
With this project, Visivalab has been able to participate in the valorization of a building with a strong symbolic and affective value for the community of Ostuni, an approach that shows once again our versatility in the most contemporary cultural and artistic sphere.
